A warm welcome from the Blue Moon family
To find out if it truly meets the hype, I visited Blue Moon cafe myself and was greeted by Suda Erdo (the manager), her parents Adam (owner and head chef) and Mujgan (sous chef) and Helen Guvenc (waitress) who were all really warm and accommodating from the moment I walked in.
Upon initial inspection, the décor inside was minimalistic, sophisticated and modern with colourful splashes of personality displayed around the space including the painted blue walls, pretty pictures, plants, lighting and bookshelves.
I could tell from the start by how warm and attentive Suda, her parents and Helen all were to every little detail that the dining experience would meet my expectations as the evening went on.
Mediterranean cuisine
The hot dinner menu in Blue Moon cafe offers a range of Mediterranean options to choose from, including Turkish cuisine – paying homage to Suda and her family’s culture.
Starter
For the starter I had Blue Moon’s take of a meze platter which included a diverse and generous range of different Mediterranean food items including tzaziki, cali ezme spicy paste, bread, avocado hummus, sigara boregi, icli kofta and more.
I could taste from the richness and freshness of each component that everything were made to order and the presentation was really lovely too.
Main
For my main I had Turkish style Chicken Skewers which came served with bell peppers, potatoes, salad and seasoned bulgur wheat salad.
Whilst I was initially worried the meal may be a bit dry, the succulent chicken truly blew me away, I was shocked at how juicy and flavourful it was overall.
The peppers, salad, potatoes and bulgur were all also wonderful, pairing really well with the chicken and making the meal feel perfectly balanced.
Dessert
For dessert, even though I was stuffed at this point, I was given scrumptious baklava with vanilla ice cream (there’s always room for dessert after all).
These little layered pastries, full of nuts and sweetness formed a lovely parcel of joy and mixed so, so well with the chewy Turkish ice cream.
I honestly loved dessert so much that Suda and her lovely family surprised me by giving me extra to take away (along with all the rest of the delicious food that I couldn’t finish due to the extremely generous portion sizes).
Overall, each dish was truly a celebration of authentic flavours and high quality produce, creating a delightful culinary experience that showcased the talents of Adam and Mujgan in the kitchen.
This place truly is a hidden gem in Taunton and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a restaurant with a family feel and diverse, delicious food made with love.
