TL;DR:
The new CEO of the US 7-Elevens has reiterated that the company is still planning to bring Japanese food offerings to the country, including egg sandwiches. The timeline for rollout is within the next 5 years, as there is difficulty with providing diverse food offerings to the more remote areas in the US, since restocking happens less often as with the Japanese chains. However, solutions have been found and there is still reason to be optimistic.
I can see those gangs raiding the cargo train around LA for an egg sandwich and tuna mayo onigiri
It’s going to be ridiculously expensive.
Does anyone know if Japanese 7-Elevens are franchises like a lot of American ones are? I assume the, ummm, uneven quality of the American stores has to do with so many of them being franchises that apparently did not require a lot of capital to start up. The good American convenience stores–Wawa, Sheetz, Royal Farms (the three I am most aware of)–don’t have franchises.
It would be nice if they can bring over the items people love, but I won’t be surprised when they “adjust” the recipe to something else entirely.
We’re getting onigiri in Australia at a pretty competitive price. Very handy for morning tea.
It needs to get to Australia stat! I’m sick of watching Mikey Chen expose the amazing world of 711 in Asia. 711’s in Australia have none of that.
