Did you know that by starting plants, in this case lettuce, from plugs, you can grow your crops four to six times faster? Join me today as we plant lettuce plugs into this bed. Hopefully [Music] So, I ordered some lettuce plugs from Circer Circa C E R C A uh cultivation. I’ve ordered from there before and their product is pretty good. They sent me uh two bundles of lettuce. We’re going to be planting freckle, green leaf, red crisp, red leaf, romaine, and a summer mix. Um, and hopefully we can get everything into this bed nice and snug. So, let’s get started. So, we’re going to start on this end with the freckled lettuce. We’re going to um my emitters on my drip system sit every six 6 in apart. So, we’re going to start where the emitter is. We’re g just going to dig a little hole with our hands about to my last knuckle. And we’re going to put in a handful of bone meal and a handful of blood meal. Mix it around in the hole. Pop a plug out. And this is one of the freckle lettucees that we will be putting in. And this is what it looks like. and just like that, we have one planted. Now, we’re going to plant one in the other along the other drip line. And you’re just going to do the same thing that we did with the first one. bone meal. Blood mill. Mix it in. Pop the plug in. And just like that, we have two planted in. The next one that we’re going to do are the green leaf and looks like this. I’m going to skip a emitter and go to the next one so the plants have some space in between them. again with the blood and bone meal. Mix in. Pop it into the hole. Back fill. And there we go. Now, I’m going to go ahead and do this with the rest of the lettuce plugs that I have, and then we’ll come back and water everything in. So, as you can see, we have all of them in, and I’m going to go ahead and give them um a thorough watering in a few. One of the reasons uh perhaps the main reason I decided to go with plugs over uh seed starting for my lettuce, I am not very good at growing lettuce. Um if you have a a lettuce seed and you give it to me to start, it’s just like telling me to go ahead and throw it away or kill it because I I’m not very good at it. So, it makes more sense to me just to buy the plugs. Now it buying the plugs has one main advantage. It simplifies the process and allows me to have a quicker harvest of lettuce. These lettuce lettuce lettuce eye or lettuce plants that I planted. They will uh from transplant transplant to harvest will be about 3 to 6 weeks before I can harvest. The leaf lettuce um will take about three to four weeks. The romaine lettuce will take four to six weeks. And we didn’t uh plant any head heading lettuce or anything like that. So in my zone 9A 8b fall through early um spring is the best time to plant lettuce. So I wanted to get a start on it. Now, I’m going to be keeping an eye out on these so that once they start to grow, they don’t bolt or anything like that. Um, usually in um a still warm climate like like my area is, um, lettuce is prone to bolting. So, we’ll keep an eye out on that. So, if you remember right, this bed is the bed that we had our second planting of black eyed peas in. And I remove removed that, added um some soil to it along with some perlite and some amendments. So, the bed should be revitalized and the lettuce should be good to grow. So, I want to thank you for coming along while we did this real quick planting of lettuce. Um, we have freckled lettuce, we have red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, we have romaine lettuce, and then we have a summer mix lettuce here. And we’re looking forward to having a a good crop. If you enjoyed the video, give me a thumbs up, leave me a comment. Let’s try to get this video to 150 likes, 200 likes. The more likes, the more it get it gets played. If you’re interested in um ordering from Circa, I’ll go ahead and put their website up. Um they’re pretty pretty decent. Um if you are one that likes to use plugs, um and realistically um lettuce is just about the only plug that I I do use. Everything else I start from seed. um lettuce and sometime onions, but lettuce for this demonstration purpose. If you haven’t subscribed to my channel, take a moment to consider doing so.
