A great party appetizer should contain several different flavors and textures in a single bite. Which is probably why our Candied Bacon Crackers are so popular. And also because they’re made with only four ingredients. It’s the kind of recipe you can pull out of your back pocket when surprise guests stop by, or if you’re hosting a party and running low on food.

What Are Candied Bacon Crackers?

In a nutshell, they are buttery crackers (like Club or Ritz) topped with strips of bacon that are brushed with maple syrup and seasoned with black pepper. So each bite is sweet, savory, spicy, smoky, chewy, and crunchy. With just four ingredients! The recipe makes enough for eight servings, but they will be devoured immediately, so it’s a good idea to make an extra batch or two if you’re serving a crowd.

The One and Only Piece Of Kitchen Equipment You’ll Need

We promise that these crackers are a cinch to make, but you will need one specific kitchen tool: an oven-safe wire rack that can fit snugly inside a baking sheet. This helps the bacon drippings drain as the crackers bake, which keeps them from getting soggy. It also prevents the crackers from sticking to the aluminum foil-lined pan and breaking.

Ways To Customize The Recipe

Instead of maple syrup, add a spicy kick with hot honey or pepper jelly. Or sprinkle on a bit of cayenne pepper instead of black pepper. Tangy marmalade (instead of maple syrup) would also pair well with the smoky bacon.
