My Favorite Israeli Salad:

Base:

Mix of greens, spinach, arugula – whatever you like

Toppings:

Nectarine/Strawberries/any fruit you like

Your favorite nut (I like roasting pecans on a pan with no oil for a few minutes, making sure it doesn’t get burnt – you know it’s ready when you flip it and the good roasted scent is there)

Goat cheese/blue cheese crumbles or both (any form of cheese you like, those are my favorites)

Assembly:

Tthe greens and all the rest on top, and add the dressing right before you serve it or start eating

Dressing:

Good quality balsamic vinegar (I get Maderna, Italy certified)

Good olive oil extra virgin

Around 3:1 olive oil to balsamic vinegar

Salt

Dijon mustard

I do half and half of pure date syrup and honey

Garlic (powder or real cut super small)

Instructions:

Mix dressing ingredients together, eyeball the proportions Israeli-style, and drizzle over salad right before serving.

So, we’re going to France for dinner tonight. And of course, I’m making a salad because Israeli salads are an entire world. Like, there’s rarely a meal without some form of salad in Israel. This is my contribution tonight. And this is the mess or balagan as we say in Israel. I’ll put the recipe in the description, but please don’t ask me for exact quantities because I do this the most Israeli way possible. I just eyeball everything. I still need to put together my dressing last minute because that’s how we do it. Chloe knows she’s not coming with us, so she’s definitely giving me those judgy dog eyes right now. And we have a gift for them. That’s actually my husband’s department, though. He is much better at that stuff than I am. Me, I’m the salad person. You can always count on an Israeli to show up with a salad. It’s like our love language. and in Hebrew salat.

  1. Salat yofee! Also, last minute is the waaaay 🤌 yalla! Also your husband is clearly very good at finding (and making) cute things, like that robot you mentioned too!

  2. Two things: if salad is an Israeli thing, I must have some hidden Israeli in my ancestry 😂, and if Israeli’s bring salad when they’re invited to dinner what happens when there’s an entire potluck (where everyone contributes a dish) at an Israeli household? Is it a lot of salad and only salad? 😉❤️

I think I have an Israeli Soul, Because I Love Salat, and in So many Ways. But admittedly, I’m fond of Chives, Mushrooms, Onions, Peppers and Nuts in various combinations in my Salat. But I’m Open to Trying new ways to enjoy. Maybe One Day, I will Be Blessed with an Israeli Wife who can Teach me much of Israeli Things.
