ERWIN, Tenn. — A new culinary delight has arrived on Main Street as Basil Wood Fired Pizza opens its doors at 1067 North Main Street.
Owner Wesley Sumner, who has dedicated years to mastering the art of pizza-making, has brought his passion to Erwin, even traveling to pizza conventions and importing ingredients directly from Italy.
He said the dough itself takes three days to make, and even the sea salt they use is imported from Italy.
Sumner said he has been working in Johnson city, but faced setback because of Helene.
“We lost our home last year in the flood,” he said. “It kind of got us a little setback…so we relied on this and the community to keep us afloat. It’s always been a goal to get back to Erwin because that’s where we live and it’s a lot closer to home, and we’re glad to be back in the area.”
The menu features a variety of options, including Margherita, Meat Lovers, Supreme, and Pepperoni pizzas.
Basil Wood Fired Pizza is open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. You can order at the food truck, or call ahead.
