Grape growers all around Europe and the northern hemisphere are looking anxiously at the weather, hoping it will hold for the forthcoming harvest. Some will have already started picking their grapes as harvest dates move earlier and earlier thanks to climate change. In celebration of the seasonal bounty, O’Briens is running a month-long harvest festival in September.
As well as the wines below, I would also recommend the lovely fresh elegant Seguin-Manuel Bourgogne Pinot Noir (€25.95-€29.95), the Signature La 4ème Tour from the excellent house of Kuentz-Bas (€16.99, down from €19.99). Another wine worth checking out is the La Salette Côtes de Gascogne (€10, down from €14).
MAN Family Wines was set in 2001 by two brothers and a winemaker looking to make great value everyday wines. In this, they have certainly succeeded. The winery is named after their three spouses: Marie, Anette and Nicky.

Rich, textured chardonnay with luscious peach fruits, a nice backbone of acidity and good length. Try this with creamy chicken dishes.

A very tasty medium-bodied shiraz with concentrated dark fruits, a touch of spice, and smooth tannins on the finish. Try it with grilled red meats.
