got 3 lobster tails from costco. the first two in the tray look great. the third one however was almost completely black-meat and all. we’re assuming this means it’s spoiled and aren’t gonna cook it but wanted to come here for an explanation cuz i’ve never experienced this.

Nah,.just season and broil that baby up – it’ll color up just fine when cooked… If it stays black, then chuck it.
I wouldn’t even cook the other too mate that looks bad
People are weird. I’ve found lobster tails shoved in the middle of a stack of clothes at Costco. A well meaning dummy might’ve put some back after it sat out too long. Looks bad.
How’s it smell?
Don’t eat it. It’s bad
the one in your hand looks so weird because it’s molting, i think the people down voting don’t know that these are spiny lobsters the other 2 look fine
What area are you in? This is wild
Save it and take it back to Costco.
Do not eat, it’s bad.
Boy, you’re bonkers
Simple Google search made it look like its just marbling of roe and is totally fine. It looks absolutely awful dont get me wrong
Those aren’t Maine Lobsters !
These are spiny lobster tails. They are in season here in Florida currently. Spiny lobster have clear gelatin like blood that slowly turns black. If you clean them correctly, this is never an issue. If there’s a little you can just cut it off.
This tail was likely poorly cleaned/sat in a pile of lobster blood. Or the mud vein exploded and also sat in lobster blood. Blame Costco
I am from New England and this is an absolute not
I thought “black lobster” was a thing. This guy’s just a savage
