TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Washburn University Office of Student Involvement and Development paired up with the University United Methodist Church to bring fresh food to campus.
The two hosted a Farmer’s Market for the campus and the surrounding community on Friday, Sept. 12.
The market featured local vendors, food, and music. Earl Williams, pastor of University United Methodist Church and Washburn University’s campus minister, says this is one way they are helping the community.
“For the past three and a half, almost four months, we’ve been having people come and give out handmade items and produce,” Williams said.
“Because within this area, there’s no grocery store. So one of the things we’re trying to do is be in the community, for the community, and with the community, and part of that is listening to what needs they may have,” he continued.
The market opened at 3 p.m. and will continue until 7 p.m.
