NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio – After more than 10 years of teaching cooking in various sites around Medina, Buttercream & Olive Oil has become a brick-and-mortar cooking school in North Royalton. Quietly opened in April, the cooking school and shop will have three days of grand opening festivities from Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 18-20.

Founder and educator Jennifer Thorton gained her expertise living in France and exploring Europe for five years. She developed specialty knowledge in olive oil while working in various stages of olive oil production and sales during her time in France. Over the years, she expanded her curriculum to include 27 different classes focused on French and Sicilian-inspired cooking techniques. These range from macarons to cassata cake and cannoli.

A purist by nature, Thornton believes strongly in local, sustainable, and organic practices. The kitchen is free from seed oils, soy, artificial flavorings, dyes, and additives. The business uses only extra virgin olive oil, local butter, and grassfed tallow, along with filtered water and non-GMO ingredients. Business packaging is environmentally conscious, with 90% of single-use items being compostable and all food waste composted. Even the toilet paper is organic.

The three-day celebration includes mini classes. These require advance tickets, though walk-in tickets may be available if space permits.

Buttercream & Olive Oil is at 8021 W. 130th St. North Royalton Road.
