A MUCH-LOVED High Street restaurant in Hailsham has announced it will be closing its doors later this month.
Romeo and Juliet, run by husband-and-wife team Ramses and Laura, will serve its final meals on Friday, 27 September, after becoming a firm favourite with the community since opening in 2018.
The couple shared an emotional message with customers this week, describing the decision as ‘incredibly difficult’ but part of ‘stepping into new adventures’.

In their statement, they said: “This place has been more than just a restaurant, it has been a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the incredible people who walked through our doors. Every dish we served carried a piece of our heart, and every smile we saw reminded us why we began this journey.
“We are endlessly grateful to our wonderful customers. Without you, none of our successes, our little triumphs, or our cherished memories would have been possible. You didn’t just dine with us, you shared your stories, your celebrations, and your trust. You became part of our family, and for that, we will be forever thankful.”
Ramses, who is originally from Cuba, trained in Verona as a baker and chef, specialising in handmade pasta, pizza, and breads. He and Laura moved to East Sussex in 2018, falling in love with the coastline before settling in Hailsham to pursue their dream of opening an authentic Italian restaurant.

In May this year, Ramses was officially recognised by the World Master Chef Society – World Master Chef UK, describing the honour as a “true milestone” in his culinary career.
The couple also paid tribute to their team, past and present, whose ‘dedication, passion and heart made this place what it was’.
The couple ended their message by saying: “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, for your support, your kindness, and for letting us be part of your lives. This journey has been unforgettable because of you.”
