This bottle of Mouton Rothschild 1967 – unknown provenance, surprised me despite low expectations for a wine way pass its prime. The nose remains quite pleasant, offering delicate notes of dried flowers, mushroom, and animal fur maybe some decomposed wood. On the palate, it’s dry with medium acidity, but the body is thin and watery, with no tannin whatsoever and low alcohol. Remarkably, it hasn’t turned to vinegar and remains drinkable, though not particularly enjoyable. I finished half the bottle, more for the cool experience of tasting history than for pleasure. A fascinating relic.
