Taiwanese here: the Mr dragon/yi tiao long chain has been my go to for 20+ years

Just had Even Life in Rowland Heights (their sign says rockstar for some reason). A little heavy on the oil but noodles and broth were fantastic.

Nicely done.

Hell yeah man! Dope review. Have you tried Taipei Og Noodle Shop in West Covina? Curious how that compares. But I will definitely be checking out these spots.

Dai Ho is legit. Tough parking. Definitely worth top mentions

Thanks for this! A reminder that I can live in LA for over 30 years and still find new and amazing places to eat!

This is really important work that you are doing, thank you for your service. When I was looking for beef noodle soups to try a lot of people suggested corner beef noodle house, I’m curious how that ranks. It was a bit too vinegary for my taste.
im a firm believer that southern california is the closest youll ever get to eating authentic asian and latin american cuisine. i am sure there are other cuisines that come close, but just so many options to choose from in la and sgv

SHOUT OUT CINDY’S KITCHEN
razorduc
Cindy’s Kitchen is now owned by Cantonese owners. Still decent, but it has fallen off. Their can’t miss items are the little fish and peanuts (used to be free when you ate there) and the frozen vegetable buns.
I think this list was compiled by non-Taiwanese folks lol. All places are solid, but hardly the best.

I liked the way you edited these. Also, the reviews were very clear. You compared the same three or four characteristics succinctly. You don’t try to be cutesy. You come across as down to earth. 10/10 I would trust your recs.

Corner Beef Noodle House in El Monte is one of the best I’ve had. The other top choice for me is Luyixian in Alhambra (for more of a Shanghainese style). The braise on the latter is amazing, while the broth on the former is superior. Both have wonderful noodles, though Corner Beef gives you a choice of noodle type. Corner Beef also offers a combo of beef and tendon in ample quantities as well as an all- tendon option.
I know it’s not LA, but have you tried A&J restaurant in Irvine? That’s my current top and I wonder how it compares to these locationa

Haven’t been back to Dai Ho in so long and was considering stopping by the last time I was in the area but now want to give Cindy’s a shot. Great review, thanks OP. Appreciate the subs not being one word at a time as well – hate that shit.

I’m not Taiwanese but I spent so much time there between 1998 and 2002, and my judgment of “Taiwanese-ness” means taking a look at the cold snacks fridge.
All of these places look great; my platonic ideal of beef noodle soups is Lin Dong Fang 林東芳 with the “beef butter” bone marrow/chili oil mix, with double tendon.

my algorithm actually already showed me your reel, op. great review. also thank you for not doing the obligatory post-bite head nod + point at your food thing.

All In Cafe in temple city had really good beef noodle soup but I believe they recently moved to Rowland Heights.

Mandarin Noodle House in Monterey Park is a great spot. Highly recommend! Cash only tho.
Google Maps says they’re temporarily closed, I’m not sure why.

After visiting Taiwan and trying this dish, I am searching for that same level of flavor. Thank you!

Lanzhou Beef Noodle in Arcadia is fantastic…
