Twice a year, Germany-based, international grocery chain Aldi brings specialty German items to its American stores for German Week. This year’s fall German Week will begin on September 17, with 50 limited-time products launching as Aldi Finds.Limited-time items available include strudels, schnitzel, spaetzle, pumpernickel, cakes, cookies, and more.
Imagine a spread of German delicacies, and you’re likely picturing — and craving — crispy schnitzel, creamy potato salad, cheesy spaetzle, bratwurst, sweet and tangy red cabbage, and more. If that has you hoping for a German feast, don’t worry; you don’t need to shell out at a restaurant to make your dreams come true.
Instead, there is one popular, affordable grocery chain in the United States that brings German ingredients and dishes to its American customers each year, delivering delicious offerings from this country across the pond.
This Wednesday, Aldi’s highly anticipated German Week returns, offering an impressive selection of 50 German foods in the Aldi Finds lineup. German Week happens just twice a year, and one Aldi fan notes on Reddit that “It’s my favorite week of the year every spring and fall.”
A representative for the grocery chain confirms to Food & Wine that German Aldi Find items will be available starting September 17, as part of the chain’s weekly Aldi Finds release. The spokesperson encourages customers to visit stores early once the products hit shelves, because “they won’t be restocked after they sell out.”
All the foods featured during German Week come from Aldi’s private line of imported German products, labeled under the brand Deutsche Küche. Among these dozens of items, there’s something for every palate, ranging from pumpernickel bread and schnitzel to strudels and German-style pickles. If you weren’t already planning a grocery trip to check out the newest Aldi Finds this Wednesday, the German Week lineup is the perfect excuse to head to the store.
What German products are available at Aldi this week?
To stock your snack cabinet, snag savory bites like Peanut Puffs, corn puffs coated with ground peanuts and salt, or crispy Potato Sticks flavored with onion powder, garlic powder, and parsley.
Shoppers with a sweet tooth can enjoy the Spritz Shortbread Cookies (in almond, coconut, or vanilla flavors) or Milk Chocolate Wafers with a rich hazelnut cream filling. German Week Finds also include frozen desserts like the Frangipane Tart (a marzipan cake with an apple or cherry filling that’s been topped with roasted almonds), Apple Walnut Cake, and Bienenstich Almond Cake filled with vanilla cream.
Is it really a German spread without strudel? Aldi says no. This German Week features not only sweet options like an Apple Strudel but also savory offerings such as a Mushroom & Cheese Strudel or Roasted Pepper & Cheese Strudel. Bavarian Soft Pretzels and German Pumpernickel Bread are also among the bakery items available for a limited time.
As for the spaetzle, those tender, slightly chewy German egg noodles, you can’t go wrong with the Mushroom Egg Spaetzle or Onion Egg Spaetzle — just make sure to pair them with Aldi’s Deutsche Küche Pork Schnitzel for the perfect German platter. To serve something crisp and tart alongside all those rich dishes, we suggest grabbing a couple of jars of the German Style Pickles or Red Cabbage with Apples, too.
What German Foods are available at Aldi year round?
If you can’t make it to the grocery store this week, Aldi tells Food & Wine that it also offers a selection of German products available in stores “on an everyday basis.” These items include the Wernesgrüner Pilsner Beer, Deutsche Küche soups in three flavors (Hearty Pea Soup, German Bean Soup, or Fall Harvest Vegetable Soup), German Style Sauerkraut, and German Roasted Medium Ground Coffee — all imported from Germany, of course.
We’ll be spending the next two days planning our grocery list so we can include as many German meals as possible this week with all our new Aldi Finds, and we recommend you do the same.
