Planted sweet potatoes back in May here in Florida (Zone 9b), and today I finally pulled the bags. This is my first-ever harvest as a gardener, and I’m honestly pretty proud of how it turned out.

All of this came out of 10-gallon grow bags. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but ended up with a nice mix of big, medium, and smaller tubers. I’ve got them laid out on cardboard under my awning to cure for a week before storing.

Some of the shapes are funky, some are small fingerlings, but every single one feels like a win. The vines went wild all summer, and I’ve also been enjoying the leaves as a spinach substitute along the way.

Any tips from more experienced growers on curing/storage or ways to cook fresh-dug sweet potatoes are welcome. Otherwise, I’m just pumped that my very first gardening attempt gave me real food on the table!

I put mine in the garage in a box of straw in the dark for a few weeks before eating. Congrats on the harvest. I love growing them. It’s interesting how they are started compared to regular potatoes.

Its my first year growing them as well, I’m seeing some peek through the soil but haven’t harvested yet since we have a short season I’m trying to let them go as long as they can.
