Forgive her, she’s sweaty (took her out the freezer to apply the little gold sprinkles). Vanilla with matcha icing, for a friends birthday. First time using piping bags, not amazing by any means but not nearly as bad as it could have been! This icing color was a nightmare

sounds like a fun first try, piping bags can be tricky but you’ll get the hang of it, matcha icing sounds unique, did you like the taste? keep practicing, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you improve

Beautiful! Can’t believe that’s your FIRST one. Here’s my question for Reddit, does anyone eat the round things? I forget the name non-pareiles maybe? I live the look of them, but I’m always afraid someone will break a tooth. I always pick the larger ones off. They don’t even taste like anything.

The green you chose is so beautiful! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so precious with this color. Amazing job OP!!

i believe you that the icing color was a nightmare *but it’s such a pretty shade of green*. i’m obsessed and it’s just the right shade with the gold, too.

@OP Holy cow!!! 1st time with a piping bag?

You hit a grand slam on your 1st swing!! 🫡

You must be very skilled at handicrafts or anything requiring good hand control like painting, drawing.. even using a pottery wheel?

I was making my own dark chocolate truffles using a piping bag (a few yrs back).. made batches about once a month to create these little daily treats for myself.

It was always nerve-wracking and a challenge to pipe them consistently.. nothing fancy (at all like your frosting).. just the same size and shape.. which was _rarely_ the case. My only saving grace is that I enrobed them in dark couverture chocolate, and that hid the weird shapes (mostly).. lol

You did an amazing job! First time where??

That’s gorgeous! Can’t believe it’s your first time using a piping bag! You’re a natural! But 😂 I had to zoom in to see the sweatiness of the frosting. At first glance I thought you had textured the sides to look like grass. 🤣 darn old eyes

the green and gold together is so elevated and fancy, you did a great job! How did you make that shade of green though???

    First time 🙀?
That is so gorgeous and perfect.

  17. Thank you everyone for the kind words! Not pictured: the chunk of decor I accidentally scraped off putting it into the freezer and my hasty attempt at fixing it 😭😭
If you’re looking to decorate for the first time but are a bit intimidated, my advice is to really lock in an icing texture that you feel you can work with first. I watched a looooooooad of video tutorials to prep, and practiced a bit with each tip on a sheet of parchment before going in on the actual cake.
Will also say that I made this slowly over the course of 3 days. If you’re not amazing at cake decor (as I traditionally am not), the extra time and making sure the cake is REALLY cold I found gave me some extra room for error.
Also be forgiving, this bitch is CROOKED but no one cares, they’re eating cake!
