September 18, 2025 (Milan, Italy) — The Association of Italian Wine Shops – Vinarius announces the appointment of Giuliano Rossi as President.

He succeeds Andrea Terraneo, who served as President for 12 years, and who stated: “It has been a privilege to lead Vinarius during these years; my choice has been to continue along the path traced by my predecessors, Francesco Bonfio and Gigliola Bozzi Gaviglio, with a strong focus on education. Over the years, we have built an increasingly full calendar of internships, including educational trips to both well-known and lesser-known wine regions in Italy and abroad, such as Alsace and Bulgaria. We have established an Observatory that annually engages with major national publications, providing valuable data and insights for the sector; we have encouraged dialogue among wine shop owners, creating opportunities for exchange and professional growth. Education remains at the heart of our work: only by investing in the training of our members can we best educate the final consumer.”

Born in Rome in 1971, Giuliano Rossi is a wine shop owner, restaurateur, and sommelier. His association experience includes being a Vinarius member since 2013, a board member since 2022, and now the first Roman president from the wine shops with on-site tasting category to hold this office. Before him, another Roman, Marco Trimani, led the association from 1991 to 1996. With Rossi, for the first time, the presidency also embraces the authentic voice of wine shops with on-site tasting, highlighting the inseparable bond between wine and the art of hospitality.

“I take on this role with respect, responsibility, and gratitude toward Andrea Terraneo,” Rossi explains, “who led the association with dedication and vision for twelve years. Over the years, this association, which has become like a family to me, has taught me the importance of combining passion with continuous education. My commitment will be to give voice to all aspects of the Italian wine shop: from sales to tasting, from education to cultural promotion. Vinarius must continue to be a point of reference for those who see wine as heritage, story, and experience. Together, we can strengthen the network, enhance excellence, and create new opportunities for Italian wine shops, both in Italy and around the world.”

His professional story is rooted in the heart of Rome, in Piazza Esedra, a place once filled with the aromas of coffee and music, specifically at the Odeon Bar Café-Concert, founded in 1915 by his great-grandparents in the Esquilino district of Rome, a venue that has served as a cherished meeting point for generations. Rossi has transformed this family heritage into an entrepreneurial vision that blends tradition and innovation: owner of the wine shop and restaurant La Fiaschetta since 2001 and The Garage Bistrot since 2020, he trained as a FIS Sommelier in 2004 and later as an Executive Master Sommelier in 2019, attending refresher courses on emblematic Italian and European wine regions. He is also an EVO Oil Sommelier and Executive Chef, with deep knowledge of Roman and national cuisine. On June 2, 2025, Rossi reopened the Café Odeon – Bar à Vin in Marina di San Nicola, exactly 110 years after his great-grandparents inaugurated the original venue. This project unites memory and the future, reflecting his vision of a wine shop as a place of culture, connection, and conviviality.

The new Board of Vinarius – Association of Italian Wine Shops is headed by President Giuliano Rossi (Rome). The Vice Presidents of the Wine Shops Section are Domenico Terruli (Martina Franca) and Silvia Angelozzi (Alba Adriatica). The Board is completed by Carlo Gargiulo (Eboli), Fabrizio Fucile (Terni), Luca De Martini (Santa Giustina Bellunese), Cosimo Chisena (Latiano), Filippo Gastaldi (Orzinuovi), Andrea Gaviglio (Milan), Gianluca Tombacco (Trieste), and Cristian Stringhetto (Legnago).

With this new leadership, Vinarius is ready to face the challenges of today with renewed energy. The goal is to strengthen the network of Italian wine shops, enhance local territories, support professional training, and promote wine as a heritage, a story, and an experience to be shared both in Italy and around the world.
