In September 2025, the training ‘German Wine Professional’ of the German Wine Institute (DWI) will start for the third time in cooperation with the 13 German wine regions.
The 14-month training is aimed at professionals in the wine industry and provides comprehensive knowledge about German viticulture over 32 training days – from oenology to wine marketing to wine tourism. An important part of the course is the visit to all 13 German wine regions, which is spread over ten multi-day stages. Participants learn in sensory training and tastings and gain practical insights from wine experts and producers. Additionally, visits to research and vine breeding institutions are included in the program.
Wine professionals with several years of professional experience in the wine industry, trade, or gastronomy can apply. The course is aimed at professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge and expand their professional network in the German wine industry. The training program ends in November 2026 with a two-day final examination. Successful graduates receive the certificate ‘German Wine Professional’. The course language is German, and the exam can also be taken in English upon request.
The course costs 3,900 euros, including meals, company visits, and seminar materials. A formal application with a motivation letter and resume is required for participation. The application deadline is June 30, 2025.
