The United Way of the Ocoee Region announced it has received a $3,000 donation from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger.

The “Nourishing Our Neighbors” grant supports community feeding partners as they tackle food insecurity and promote healthier lifestyles through nutritional education initiatives.

Funds from the grant will support UWOR’s William Hall Rodgers Christmas Food Basket program which provides healthy holiday meals to more than 730 local individuals and families in need.

The WHR Christmas Food Basket program began during the Great Depression.

With community support, UWOR continues to make spirits bright through coordinating, packing, and distributing hundreds of food boxes to the area’s most vulnerable population every holiday season.

“While the registration and distribution for the program are still a few months away, the need is greater than ever before,” said Darlene Hicks, executive administrative assistant of the United Way of the Ocoee Region. “Through the generous donations from corporate partners like Food Lion Feeds and individual community members, we are thankful to be able to continue the work of this valuable program.”
