The Malta Food Agency will once again be organising “Festa Ikel Malti,” which will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Pitkalija in Ta’ Qali. The event, which also forms part of the activities marking World Food Day, has become a yearly fixture in Malta’s cultural and agricultural calendar.
Throughout the day, visitors will enjoy exhibitions and sales of local produce, interactive activities for children, live music and entertainment for the whole family, along with themed experiences placing Maltese food at the heart of the nation’s identity and culture.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo described Festa Ikel Malti as proof that Maltese food is part of the country’s heritage and identity. “Through Festa Ikel Malti we celebrate our traditions, but we also celebrate the work of farmers and fishers who, through their sacrifices, provide us with fresh produce. The event will also highlight ongoing work to strengthen the sustainability of Malta’s food supply chain as we face new challenges such as climate change and dependence on imports. By choosing Maltese products, we are strengthening the local economy and building resilience for the future,” he said.
Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said added, “Festa Ikel Malti is a celebration of Maltese food and our traditions. Fish, as part of the Mediterranean diet, offers many health benefits. When we choose local fish, we are not only making a healthy choice for ourselves but also supporting our fishers and keeping Maltese traditions alive. Festivals like this celebrate our farmers, herders, fishers and producers who provide us with the freshest products all year round.” She thanked the Malta Food Agency for their work in ensuring the event’s success and encouraged families to attend.
Chief Executive of the Malta Food Agency, Brian Vella, said, “Our mission is to protect, promote, and celebrate local food production. This festival reflects that mission because it brings together farmers, fishers, food producers, and families, with Maltese produce at the centre of the activity.”
The public is invited to attend Festa Ikel Malti 2025 on Sunday, October 12, at the Pitkalija, Ta’ Qali, from 10:00am to 5:00pm – a celebration embracing Maltese food, culture, and community.
