Wine Spectator, the wine-focused lifestyle magazine known for its 100-point ratings, named two Oregon bars to its list of editor’s favorites.

Not specifically labeled as a “best-of” list, the guide focused on standout wine bars from across the United States as well as a handful of international destinations, “all places where wine is poured with care and every glass is a special occasion.”

In Portland, the magazine recommended Canard, the sister restaurant to the neighboring Le Pigeon and our 2018 Restaurant of the Year, where you can “sit down with a glass of Burgundy and a $5.50 burger.”

“Located next door to Le Pigeon on East Burnside street, Canard specializes in French wines and cuisine with a touch of classic Portland ‘weirdness,’” the magazine wrote. “These decadent snacks are an excellent complement to Canard’s fantastic selections from across France, including the Loire, the Rhône and Beaujolais, but focusing on red and white Burgundy.”

In McMinnville, Wine Spectator suggested a stop at Evan Martin’s 4-year-old HiFi Wine Bar, with its focus on “soulful” sounds and wine.

“On the by-the-glass list, a full range of international options includes Crémant de Bourgogne, Spanish Godello and Washington Cabernet Sauvignon,” the magazine wrote. “The bar itself is outfitted with a full DJ deck: Every Saturday night, HiFi hosts live sets with local DJs, playing everything from Latin beats to new wave jazz to funk and beyond.”
