Despite its relative proximity to the coast, there are very few places that have seafood as their main focus.

However, there are still some eateries that have decent options for the cuisine alongside other choices.

We decided to ask Daily Echo readers what they believed to be the best restaurant that offers seafood options on its menu, and one stood out.

Southampton’s best restaurant for seafood, according to readers

On a Facebook post asking the question about what Southampton’s best restaurants are for seafood, a small number of comments were left, and one place received almost all of the mentions.

Soleto Italian Restaurant on Commercial Road had won the favour of quite a few readers.

One wrote: “Soleto Italian Restaurant & Bar they poor [sic] love into every dish and make each customer feel cared for.”

Another shared: “Soleto Italian Restaurant. Best food in Southampton.”

On its website, Soleto says it offers a “great selection of Italian and Bistro dishes” which are “perfect for any occasion”.

It adds: “Try dishes like Gamberone: Pan fried tiger prawns with garlic, white wine, butter, lemon and cherry tomato served on crostini or Fegato Veneziana: Calves liver served with mashed potato and vegetables. red wine, onion, rosemary and pancetta sauce.”

Other options for seafood on their menus include the Linguini Fruit Mare, which combines salmon, prawns, mussels and calamari in tomato and garlic sauce.

There’s also pan-roasted fresh salmon and Capesante, which is seared scallops, Guanciale and creamy wholegrain mustard.

Soleto Italian Restaurant has been very well-received by diners, earning a 4.7/5 score on Tripadvisor from 977 reviews.

One wrote: “I came with my family before seeing a show and had only booked for convenience however we had one of the best meals we have eaten in a long time.

“I had a king prawn linguine with enormous langoustines which was mouthwatering.

“We also tried the mussels, chicken liver and meatballs and everyone cleared their plates and said how delicious it was.

“We will definitely be back to enjoy more of the menu in this lovely restaurant.

Another commented: “My wife had the mushroom risotto, and I had the seafood linguine. Both dishes were superb, delivered quickly, and devoured with enthusiasm.”

A third posted: “We had dinner on Saturday after shopping in Southampton. What a delight, we have always enjoyed the food here and once again was not disappointed.

“I had the sea bass with a creamy prawn sauce from the specials board which was amazing and a very good choice.”
