Long time lurker but bf encouraged me to post because it was delicious. Randomly wanted the congee from Mulan this morning. Fair warning this is high in sodium— trying to use these salted duck eggs we got from Costco but they are just too salty! I ended up scooping some of the yolk out in mine.

1/3 cup Quaker Oats 100% whole grain rolled oats- 100cal
1 salted duck egg- 90cal
Handful spinach~ 7cal
1 strip Aldi center cut bacon- 25cal
1 tsp Lao Gan Ma chili oil~ 27cal
Small small drizzle sesame oil~ 30cal(?)
Water
Total- 279cal

Do not add extra salt, the egg seasoned it well. But also one egg has 1310mg sodium, so I recommend not eating it often. Can easily do without the chili oil, bacon, and sesame oil but we like a little razzle dazzle and extra aroma.

  1. Edit: Chili crisp, not oil (but it’s still oil lol). It is actually 37cal for 1 tsp which would bring this meal up to 289cal.

Now this looks good! Enough protein to get you through the following montage too 😂

Salted duck eggs are so gooood. I only eat the yolk and I save the egg whites to make fried rice!!

Porridge! And it’s happy to see you!

  5. Salted duck eggs are not to be eaten straight! Definitely a flavoring compound. Try a Filipino way which is to mash it with diced tomato and eat it over rice 🙂

I love making congee with oats. I use chicken bouillon, stir in an egg or 2 just before done cooking, add whatever veggies, season with sweet soy sauce and sesame oil. Top with chicken.

This looks so yummy and such a great idea!! I love how you made the chilli crisp into its nose 🙂
I wish I had a little guardian dragon kick me out of bed and cook me congee every morning lol
