Noticed they put up these art pieces in the past couple weeks. At first I was like, oh they’re leaning into the neighborhood culture (Sawtelle Japantown) and cool that they commissioned some art. Took a closer glance and it’s very obviously AI, which is really disappointing. Feels like a half hearted cash grab to steal some customers from the very Asian (and Asian owned) coffee shop across the street.

You got nothing better to do than complain about some shit ai art a coffee shop has posted outside? Cmon
Also like that they make a point to call it “the first specialty coffee shop in Sawtelle”
Annoying… but honestly it doesn’t make them any less of a great coffee shop. Love the staff and vibe
Might be a hot take: but I’m ok with smaller businesses/crappy businesses using AI for art and decoration around their business. Yeah they could pay a real artist, but also a food business is running on a skeleton crew and many on negative money.
My favorite Thai food place is run by a super old family and has AI photos of the Buddha and Thai culture on the wall, which I think is hilarious.
Man, I miss Cacao. Open till 3AM, $1.50 for coffee. Wrote many scripts in there, met many friends.
Sounds about right for this place.
What changed your mind? Was it a company trying to save money by using AI or was it because AI is bad?
This is weird. I’ve seen a couple other places elsewhere do this. Hope restaurants realize it’s not going to attract customers

The mess she’s holding in picture one doesn’t even look appetizing.
(I assume brownie?)
I’ve never heard of it, even though I live close by and used to go to Cacao once in awhile. Will check it out.
Which coffee shop are you referring to across the street?
Setting aside the horror of the hand holding it, what the hell is that large gooey thing supposed to be?
A blatant disregard for Cacao and Balconi (never knew how to pronounce it) who were specialty coffee shops around years before Good People took over Cacao’s space.
Will actively avoid a place that has anime art as a feature. Usually it’s disgusting and sexual. Looking at you chubby weebs and your pornographic cars.
Little Tokyo is an exception.
The tattoos on the bottom right and top left literally are triggering my trypophobia. It’s a fucking awful illustration.
Bad taste. Maybe there is actually more AI generated art than what we are noticing these days, but IMHO the people who seem to use these “tools” the most are using it so fucking poorly and lazily.

yeaaah I have always gotten a bad feeling from this place. the way they run their ordering flow at the counter is so annoying, they have questionable pandering art about acknowledging black and brown people, and their drinks are crazy expensive for no reason…..
Sounds like the people who run this business are pretty shit, but I assume all y’all complaining about AI are never going to be using it, and commissioning all of your art for the rest of your lives, right?… Right?
They definitely could have found at least one artist to do something like this
