Nam Goong-hyun Buyer, who oversees alcohol at Hyundai Department Store, was recognized for his wine-related expertise by receiving the 820-year-old French wine knighthood “Jurrad de Saint-Temillion.”

Hyundai Department Store announced on the 22nd that Nam Baier was knighted at the winery Palais Cardinal in Bordeaux, France, on the 21st. The knighthood is considered one of France’s top three wine knighthoods, along with ‘Chubali’ in the Burgundy region and ‘Comandrie’ in the Medoc region.

This award is because Nam Goong-hyun Buyer was recognized for his contribution to revitalizing the French wine market by introducing various types of French wines to Korea. Nam Buyer introduced more than 500 kinds of French wines in Korea through Hyundai Department Store Wine Works and Korea’s first large-scale outlet Wine Shop Wine List. Through this channel, as many as 600,000 bottles of French wine were sold from 2022 to last month.

It also contributed to promoting the taste and aroma of high-end French wine to Korea. In April, Nam Buyer introduced a “premium glass wine bar” at its main Wine Works store in Apgujeong, where you can taste Bordeaux’s top five chateau recognized by wine lovers around the world. The premium glass wine bar offered a special experience to enjoy the top five chateaux in cups, which cost well over 2 million won per bottle at a high-end restaurant.

A person who receives a wine knighthood means that he is recognized for his expertise in wine and takes on the role of an opinion leader in the industry. In addition, those who have been awarded the Jurad knighthood are limited to about 3000 people around the world, serving as ambassadors to promote wine in the Saint-Temillion region.

Hyundai Department Store will sell 20 kinds of French wine gift sets selected by Nam Buyer at up to 50% off the initial sale price to commemorate the knighthood award from the 22nd to the 5th of next month. The representative products include KY French Wine Set No. 2 (65,000 won, 750ml*2 bottles), which consists of two French Bordeaux red wines, and French Hyundai’s sole No. 1 (80,000 won, 750ml*2 bottles), which consists of white wines “Franc Pahle Blanc” and “Chateau O Baradieu.”

Nam Baier said, “The efforts so far to introduce customers to various French wines ranging from premium to cost-effectiveness have led to meaningful results. In the future, we plan to provide customers with a special gastronomic experience by curating various wines around the world, including French Bordeaux wine.”
