It’s got a little moisture to it and it’s chewy, I’ve never had tofu like this before. Flavor is not amazing, but the texture is pretty good. I’ve made crispy tofu and crunchy tofu but never chewy tofu like it was a piece of processed meat or a piece of jerky.

I love chewing on overbaked tofu chunks. So dry and chewy, delicious!

If you haven’t already you should try mushroom jerky. It’s the closest to meat jerky texture I’ve found!

There are lots of soy or seitan vegan friendly jerky brands out there.

Alot of asian grocery stores will also have some additional soy jerky

Be Leaf jerky is hands down the best vegan jerky, period.

I’ve made it in the dehydrator but I only did it once so maybe it wasn’t amazing. 😂

I do press and bake tofu on 300° for about an hour and then marinate it in peanut sauce to take camping. We just eat it cold. Like wet jerky.

I had a friend with a smoker make tofu jerky. The texture was horrible and overall it was not good.

Yes! I usually make it in a dehydrator, but you can also bake it in the oven at low temperature for a while. You cut it into very thin pieces and then baste with something like barbeque sauce. Try to avoid overdoing it, otherwise you may break your teeth on it. It’s very nice for long backpacking trips. Not exactly the same texture as that store bought jerky but you can make a bunch and it will cost you pennies.

Yes! I made tofu jerky recently in my oven and brought it to a vegan potluck. Everyone loved it!

There’s a little business (Soya Nova Tofu Shop) on Salt Spring Island that makes the best smoked tofu jerky. It’s smoked and ends up with the harder texture that some smoked salmon can get. Tastes amazing and I’ve been trying to find a more widely available substitute.

Yuba jerky, I find it pleasant and with a good bite.
