I’ve had a dilemma for some time now which caused me to toss my old grill. Some back story:
I got an old grill from a friend it was a Weber Q 1200 which was pretty old, well used , and well it worked once in a blue moon. I would get it started and the flames would go out within 3 minutes. And the propane tank wouldn’t work for a couple days. I learned it was triggering the safety on the tanks. Tried some stuff, didn’t work. Switched tanks, switched hoses, nothing worked. Tossed the grill, got a new one. Worked for the first 2 weeks, not a single issue and then… boom same issues. Is there something I am doing wrong? I open the propane painfully slow. Start the grill about 1 minute later. It’s usually every other time I go to grill this happens.
I find if I disconnect and reconnect at the tank before I go to use it, it works.
Has anyone had this issue???
Also please do not crucify me for tossing the old one… it’s a regret I have every day that I didn’t just buck up and fix it.

Had the same issue with the 5 gallon tanks. Turns out using the little 16oz camping tanks fixed it completely, never had an issue using those. Used the new refillable kind this year and it worked great! So just get the refillable small cans and use your 5 gallon to fill them up, or you can buy the 16oz disposables.
The regulator is cooked, remove it from valve and buy connectors to hook big tank to valve, lots of videos and info.
I’d go with a Napoleon. I love my Weber summit kamado but after my genesis dies I’ll be going with Napoleon 285 lower. I have a jumbo Joe as well but for gas I’m switching
Don’t know if this is your problem but you may want to try adding a propane filter.
If you have a Tractor Supply Company near you they usually have them in stock for $12.
