In Germany, the main grape harvest has started significantly earlier than usual. In the Rheingau region, for example, the harvest begins about three weeks before the long-term average. The German Wine Institute (DWI) expects a quick harvest. The grapes for white and red wines are ripening almost simultaneously and currently promise the best qualities. They are healthy, have high must weights, and appealing fruit acidity levels. Their development status is currently comparable to those of the vintages 2003 and 2018.

The DWI expects fresh, fruity, and aromatic white wines and full-bodied red wines. The small amounts of precipitation in August have led to concentrated berries; however, the must yields are often low. The winemakers are currently hoping for continued dry weather as well as warm days and cool nights to continue bringing in healthy grapes.
