Looking for a solution so not setting the kettle lid on the ground every time lift it. Looks like 3 options out there. Curious what people's experience with the different version are.

2) Lid hanger – Simply hangs on the edge and hold lid https://www.weber.com/US/en/parts–et–support/replacement-parts/charcoal-parts/8411.html
3) Lid hinge – Creates a hinged lid https://bbqsmokermods.com/weber-kettle-lid-hinge-unknown-bbq.html
I realize the differences between these are somewhat immaterial, but before ordering something figured I'd check with the brain trust. Don't mind drilling a few holes for options 1 or 3. Thanks!

If you don’t have a bail then you should have a hook on the lid
Hinge sounds cool until you want the top vent in a different position
If I have a kettle from the 90s, will a newer one fit?
Reason being is the old lid bale sucks and keeps the lid at an angle where it looks like the newer ones put the lid at 90°.
It’s honestly crazy how they were fine with it at such an angle back in the day.
Yours doesn’t’ have a hook on the lid? It should that lets you hang the lid on the kettle.
The lid hinge is probably the A-#1 stupidest idea Weber ever tried to market and actually sold.
Does the hinge allow the lid to go to a full 90 degrees or does it stop where shown in the last picture? Right now, I just set my lid to the side even though I have a lid bale. No matter which direction I face with the lid bale the smoke blows directly back at me. If the hinge opens a full 90 degrees and with the small gap at the bottom I would think it would allow the smoke to blow away from me.
I’ve been using that hinge for over a year, love it.

I have had both option 1 and option 2, and there isn’t much of a difference between them. I use option 1 most often these days and for some reason I prefer it, but I can’t tell you why. Any of them is an improvement over setting on the ground, I’ll tell you that!

I love the hid linge, although I did drill another hole in mine for a second screw to rest on so it opens more 90 degrees than not.
Option #1, the Lid bail can close or open the vent on top if you are not careful.
I had the lid hanger before I bought the Weber MasterTouch that comes with the bail. I totally recommend the hanger, it works very well, it’s cheap and it doesn’t require anything complex to mount: just put it on the grill.
