A new batch of contestants have signed up to be stranded on the beaches of Fiji, where they’ll try to outwit, outlast and outplay on “Survivor” 49.
The new season of the CBS competition show arrives Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with a special two-hour premiere. The first episode will introduce fans to the 18 castaways competing this season.
Among the group, which includes a correctional officer, film producer and rocket scientist, are two players who will return for the show’s milestone 50th season, premiering in spring 2026. The network has already announced 22 members of the all-returnees cast and will later reveal the two additional contestants from “Survivor” 49 that were asked to play again.
Before the highly-anticipated Season 50, fans will see a group of newbies form alliances, fight for immunity and vote each other out at Tribal Council.
Ahead of “Survivor’s” return, host Jeff Probst spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why the Season 49 castaways stand out.
“Every time a new group comes in, they find a different way to do something with the Shot in the Dark, or they encounter a new take on the Beware Advantage,” he said, referring to twists that have been added in the “new era” of “Survivor.” “Anytime something like that happens, it now gifts the game because new things are possible or new things are plausible, even if they haven’t happened yet.”
Probst continued, “When Rizo and Shannon and Savannah and Jawan and Kristina all get out there this season, they have their own take on the game, but they’re also bringing 48 seasons of history of what has worked, what hasn’t worked, what they should encounter, what they should expect to encounter. That’s what makes it unique — that they’re playing with more history than the previous group had and therefore, maybe it’s a slightly more evolved group every time.”
He also teased that loyalty during the second half of the season is like “a temporary tattoo,” hinting the gameplay will be ruthless.
CBS announced that following the premiere, which will air on the network and also stream on Paramount+, the rest of the season will have 90-minute weekly episodes starting Oct. 1.
