This would be my first smoker, FB marketplace find for $50. Looks a little rusty and dirty, is this worth the buy? If so how would you guys recommend cleaning it up and what should I try smoking first?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

I would want to have a look under that grease pan to see what the status of the firebox is, but if it works then $50 is a steal. You can buy a new grate and some grill cleaner for the inside walls. As long as the firebox/auger arent rusted out and still work.

For 50 bucks I’d take it, or lowball him for 30. That’s what marketplace is all about.
If it works, it’s worth it.

Yes. Even if it needs a new hot rod, or fan motor. It is worth it.
I have an old version of this..it must be 15 years old. I’ve replaced the hot rod twice and the fan once. Also put a new fire pot in mine a few yesrs ago. Still going strong.
If it works, get it. The grill does not even look too bad!
Take it, vacume it out. Hit it with a bush and scrub the grate off. Fire it up and smoke some chicken thighs. I have a killer recipe for Hawaiian marinated chicken thighs that will knock your socks off. Pair it with coconut milk rice, and you will impress anyone who tries it.
Or grab a pork loin and smoke it. Easy peasy, and delicious!

Definitely a good deal, even if it requires a couple replacement parts

I got my Junior elite for slightly less than this. Including my purchase price, a stainless steel Hot pot, PID controller, and a stainless steel heat shield. I’m less than $150 into it.
As long as you can get it and upgrade it for less than a new one, I think it’s a good deal

I would get it for 50. I bought a pro 34 for 100 in much worse condition much older also and spent hours cleaning it. Best brisket I have ever had on Saturday

Buy it and buy parts. Or buy it, clean it as best you can, and sell it for $200-$300

I tossed mine. That has the old controller. It will disappoint you endlessly. There are kits to update it but after ruining a number of briskets, I was done with it. I have a Woodridge Pro now. It’s worth every cent.

50$ is a deal even if you need to do a repair
