Right, I just went apple picking with the family. This is all very wholesome and cute, but it now means that I’ve got to peel all these and make a delicious apple crumble. I’ve done about half. I can’t be bothered to do the rest. But I’m just going to cube up these and go straight into a nice baking dish. I always keep it simple. Going brown sugar, bit of cinnamon, some plain flour in there, and then a good squeeze of lemon. Get that involved. Most important part, crumble, butter and flour. You want to rub the flour into the butter. You want it to kind of resemble sand. We’ll get some more brown sugar in there. You don’t have to, but we like it sweet roundy. And then for extra texture, you can go for like nuts or I’m just going to get some oats in there. And we’ll get all this over the top. And you want to press it firmly down. We’ll get this into bake for like half an hour until it’s bubbling and crispy. When it comes to custard, I do love ambrosia, but it’s really easy to make your own. We want four egg yolks, castor sugar, and I like to go some corn flour to thicken it all up. I’ve whisked that up into like a paste. Don’t want to get some milk like hot but not boiling. And literally just slowly pour it back in and whisk as you go. Then bang it back into the pan on medium heat. And when it’s thickened up, season with some vanilla. Now, completely optional, but to get it nice and silky smooth, pass it through a sie. Now, that is delightful. We’ll have the crumble out. Let it chill out for a little bit and we’ll start plating up. And that is dessert sorted. This is such a classic. Like it just you can’t go wrong with it. I just love like a proper biscety crumble.
