WARRENVILLE — Remembering how he came up with the idea for Langley Tavern is easy for Greg Pierce.
And it didn’t require a lot of thinking.
“I came over here to do some business, and I was hungry, so I was looking for a place to eat,” he said. “Somebody told me I had to go six miles either direction if I didn’t want to eat fast food.”
Following that experience, it was obvious to Pierce that the area near Langley Pond Park, where many new homes are being built, would be a good place to open a sit-down restaurant that also offered some entertainment options.
Langley Tavern officially made its debut Sept. 16 at 2549 Jefferson Davis Highway.
Pierce and his wife, Angelia Roberts, own the business in partnership with three other people — family members David and Tammi Roberts, who live in Michigan, and Mike Iezzi.
Pierce, Angelia Roberts and Iezzi are the managing partners.
Langley Tavern’s operating hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
The atmosphere is “very family-friendly,” Iezzi said, and Langley Tavern’s amenities appeal to a wide age range of patrons.
In addition to a full bar, Langley Tavern has a game room with a multi-sport simulator, pool tables, claw machines, pinball machines and a Golden Tee Live video arcade golf game.
Throughout Langley Tavern, there are seven televisions that provide access to sports programming.
“If you’re a family person you can come in here and bring your kids,” Iezzi said. “If you’re just a couple of guys who want to come in here and play some [simulated] golf, you can play golf. If you just want to sit and enjoy yourself at the bar, you can do that. If you want to watch a football came, we’ve got that on.”
Langley Tavern’s menu features “home-style pub food,” according to a sign near its front entrance.
Among the most popular choices, Iezzi said, are the cheeseburger, the Tavern Club sandwich, fish and chips, and the Tavern Dog, a jumbo beef hotdog that is wrapped in bacon and fried.
