It was time. My Malhlkoning was great starter grinder, but I did well on the life front and decided to treat myself to the second last grinder I will ever buy (zerno or eg1 being endgame). Went to the shop in Switzerland where the guys not only discussed the pros and cons but assembled it for me and made me a first coffee as a test to try before I paid and took it home. Officially my grinder costs more than my machine now. Next step hopefully a linea Micro in a few years.

Wow, amazing grinder, congrats!
The grinder vs counter top ratio is off the scale
In my opinion the grinder should always be more expensive then the machine
What did this grinder improve on your older one?
I love the Philos! Congrats!!
“My Malhlkoning was a great starter grinder”…
Congrats! I’m very new to home espresso but I absolutely love my Philos. It just feels good to use.
Love the wood insert in the dashboard.
Oh yea, congrats on the new grinder. 😉
The Mazer Philos IS my end game grinder. I’ve seen no downside to owning one.

All high end grinders, no machine!

Was that an ECM commercial grinder you were replacing? If so, is the Mazzer better?
I’m sorry – maybe it’s an English translation thing but are you planning on getting a eg1 or zerno along with this one?
And beans that are past date since 2024?!
Do they season the grinder before pulling the first shot? If not, how was that first shot?
It took about 2-2.5kg of seasoning beans to become consistent for me. First cups were a bit of a challenge and then I just fed through a few kg of lousy beans at setting 35 (careful not to overheat the machine… you also learn a metal cup is critical as it is clearly grounded to prevent static, I used a stone cup first and it was very messy).
Once seasoned no wdt required for me, and I use the Philos for my decaf or light roast only which are too difficult for my other grinder.
