One of Northside’s busiest commercial corridors has welcomed a new restaurant.

Morty’s Market & Deli opened last week at 305 W. Brookland Park Blvd.

Led by Bingo Beer Co.’s Jay Bayer and Adam Stull, Morty’s is a sandwich shop offering European-inspired dishes served on house-made focaccia bread. Its food menu also includes some salads and small plates, such as cacio e pepe broccoli rabe, chicken paprikash and braised fennel.

Stull said two of the shop’s most popular sandwiches thus far have been the Chicky Gabagool, made with fried chicken cutlets and capicola, and the Mostly Italian, which has capicola, speck, provolone, pesto aioli and mortadella, the Italian cold cut for which the restaurant is named. Sandwiches at Morty’s are priced between $13 and $16, and small plates are between $11 and $14.

Bayer and Stull took over the space, which used to be Brookland Park Kitchen, in the winter and renovated it into a counter-service eatery that has a full bar. Morty’s bar menu includes a number of spritzes, over a half-dozen house cocktails as well as beer and wine.

The new spot has a full bar and extensive wine selection.

In addition to hot food, Morty’s also stocks select pantry items, bottled wine and prepared pasta dishes to-go.

At 2,100 square feet, Morty’s has seating for about 40. It’s closed Tuesdays, but is otherwise open daily for lunch and dinner service, and stays open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Stull said the shop is operating with a staff of around 17.

The arrival of Morty’s continues a busy year for Brookland Park Boulevard.

Over the summer, coffee shop and barbecue joint The Smoky Mug reopened in a new, larger space a few blocks down, and above it is Brandery Richmond, a coworking space that opened earlier this month.

Julio’s Bagels and I Love You So Much Books also opened along Brookland Park Boulevard this year, and former food truck Auntie Ning’s Filipino Food is preparing to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in The Smoky Mug’s old space, at 15 E. Brookland Park Blvd.
