Lunch at JAAN by Kirk Westaway Singapore. (British Cuisine)

The service was really nice – friendly but also professional. I was quite touched that they wished my a happy birthday even though I hadn’t indicated on my booking this year that it was for my birthday (which as a week ago). They probably have it on the database from my previous year’s booking.

The dishes are as follows:

Amuse Bouche – Tomato Tart / Goose Mousse / Cheddar Pancake / Fish and Chips

My favourite was the fish and chips, which was a bite sized reinterpretation of the full dish into a small potato / fish combo that melted in my mouth.

Charred Leek & Potato Soup

The crunchy macadamia topping added a nice crunch to the soup

English Garden

Dish was SO beautiful, I love the colours and the slightly sweet taste of the vegetables

Violet Artichoke

Only after I dipped the spoon in that I realised it was a play on the Egg and Soldiers. The fried bread pieces works really well with the egg in the artichoke dish. In fact I kinda wish I could dip some of the bread basket pieces into the dish lol

Red Mullet

The dish sauce came with crab pieces which works really with the mullet.

Berkshire Pork

It’s by now I realise that Jaan has a habit of understating the dishes lol. It’s a pork dish but also came with a separate pork sausage and salad. The minty lettuce and cucumber salad works really well with the heavier pork dish.

Gin & Tonic

The GnT was actually a Gin and Tonic sorbet palette cleanser. It has a very refreshing and slightly bitter kick.

Strawberry Peach

The dessert also came with cheese and herb ice cream and an earl grey sauce

Lunch Menu 238 SGD Non Alcohol pairing 68 SHD

A minor touch I am grateful for – Michelin meals often came with bread and as a solo diner there is ALWAYS too damn much bread for one person. But this time the waiter volunteered to help pack the bread to go. It was lovely that I didn’t have to ask(and commit a fine dining faux pas) or waste really good bread

I was grateful they included an option for non alcoholic pairing. There was a mix of sparking tea and fruit juice infusions, which adds a bit of fun to the meal. (Sparkling water is good and all, but a bit boring when other people can get tailor made drink pairings and I just get a bored sommelier pouring water lol)
