I don't eat in midtown that often, but a friend picked this place for dinner. I wasn't in the mood for tacos so I got the green chile chicken enchiladas, which were average. Much more satisfying was my friend's queso fundido, a mix of chorizo, onions, garlic, oaxaca, and a "house cheese blend". It comes with tortillas on the side and it's sort of like nachos. I wouldn't object to this place if someone picked it again, and I'd probably get the tacos next time out of curiosity. Not bad, not mindblowing.
Nothing like a big sloppy helping of poutine for $10. Almost feels like I'm hacking the Village when everyone else is eating $40 plates of pasta. I always get the basic poutine; they have a fancier one with cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, and shrooms but I like to keep it simple. If you'd like a little extra something, get some of their wild mushroom sauce alongside. Works really well with poutine. Side note: their wine, figs, and sage sauce is permanently gone, but the aji verde–easily the best one they've come out with in recent years–is still there and I can't recommend it enough with their regular fries.
Came here for a snack and got a single smash cheeseburger. Not as hyped as 7th Street, Hamburger America, or some other places, but solid, greasy, and reliable. They could do more with their fried onions if they wanted to, but this has always struck me as a place that, well, just does everything pretty decently, no signature items. And it's nice to give my business to a truly local spot.
Pay the extra $0.50 or whatever it is for the "sour veg" (mustard greens). I can no longer have the peanut noodles without it.
Their "everything" focaccia with scallion cream cheese. I can't complain about the focaccia's texture, they always nail that, but this was my first time having this particular item and I found it too salty overall, in a way that I usually don't with bagels. I think they need to review the seasoning balance.
Not a regular place for me–I stopped in because I was famished and this was the most convenient. This is their mortadella toastie, with pistachio pesto, stracciatella, and balsamic onion jam on focaccia. Tasty as hell for sure, but $17 for this size of a sandwich felt a bit extortionate, UES location notwithstanding.
Probably the least amount of cheese I've seen in a quesadilla. Really more of a flat taco than anything else. Not bad but not what I expected.
