firstly, apologies for the bashed-up tub, it's been kicking around the freezer for a while. thought I'd make a little post here because I don't this it's been covered on this sub before, and there's just a general lack of uk icecream. for all the non-brits, the Crunchie is a classic chocolate bar (about a century old now!) consisting of a block of sugar honeycomb covered in milk chocolate.
this icecream is based on Cadbury's original Dairy Milk icecream, which is vanilla with shards of milk chocolate, and a core of semi-liquid chocolate sauce. the Crunchie version keeps the chocolate shards and sauce, but swaps the vanilla icecream for honeycomb flavour, and also includes pieces of chocolate-covered honeycomb.
the actual icecream is perfectly fine: nothing amazing, but certainly not bad. I can't say for certain that I'd identify it as specifically honeycomb-flavoured in a blind taste test, but it does have a nice caramelised sugar tone to it. it is really quite sweet, though, so maybe not something you'd want to have a large amount of in one sitting.
the real attraction here is the chocolate. plenty of it. I debated on the phrase to use, but landed on chocolate "shards" because I don't think they're quite thick enough to be called chunks. I think they're the perfect form factor, though. not so large that they disrupt scooping, and theyre just thin enough to give a satisfying snap. the honeycomb pieces are wonderful, too, just like miniature bites of an actual Crunchie bar.
I've seen many an icecream with some sort of saucy core, but I think these Cadbury tubs do it best. fresh out the freezer, the chocolate core is seized and fairly solid, similar in texture to the icecream, but it quickly starts to liquify within a few minutes. it ends up a lovely, silky smooth texture and (despite Cadbury's chocolate taking a dive in quality after being bought out by kraft/mondelez a few years back) tastes delicious. I especially enjoyed mixing the remaining icecream and sauce together towards the bottom of the pint.
overall, if you're a fan of sugar honeycomb, I'd say this is definitely worth a try. even though it's only 2 different flavours, they really benefit from the different forms they're presented in. 7/10

*I don’t think it’s been covered.
spelling mistake in the first paragraph smh
I did not know Cadbury made ice cream. I love their eggs both the gooey centered ones and sugar shell ones as well. I wish this was a thing across the pond.
