Is it normal for ground beef packed like this to have a slight sulfur smell when opening?
Multiple friends told me it wasn't a big deal and to just use it, but I just can't do it.

Should be fine. It normal for vacuum sealed meat to have slight odor. Wait until you open a vacuum sealed packs of lamb leg. Diabolical… smell like death. But I still havent died eating them yet.

Most people have no idea the smells meat can make and have. Any thing that isn’t causing you to heave or hurl is just normal. Dry aging makes beef have a more cheese flavor aspect. Packs of meat like the one pictured ate normal to have a bit of off smell. During the vacuum packing . The juices thar normally cause this are usually pulled into the pads under ‘ normally ‘ packed fresh meats. I like them cause the meat doesn’t go dark ( oxidized) but even that doesn’t mean it’s no good anymore. I like the meat packed that way cause it fits in the freezer better

Maybe, but check the expiration date. I bought premade burger pattys of that same brand twice. 1x no big deal. Next time stunk terrible, checked expiration date and they were expired by a decent amount. Bought them at a big grocery store chain, kinda bummed but wasn’t worth going back to fight for refund. I’m guessing prepackaged stuff doesn’t turn over as quick.

you shouldnt get ground meat unless its from a butcher who grinds it themselves. who knows how long thats been sitting around. it wont make you sick but wet aged stuff tastes like ass.

If it doesn’t dissipate after a minute, then it’s bad. I’ve had problems with that brand where it was rotten before the expiration date. Trust your instincts.

In my family we call it the packaged “meat fart.” Totally normal, briefly off-putting, but it shouldn’t linger.

Whenever you break the seal on pretty much any raw, vacuum-sealed beef, it is going to smell like ass for a few moments.

It’s cryovac sealed. They flush the bag with an inert gas that smells like that.
