I'm in zone 6a and have one little watermelon. I'm afraid to pick it too soon. Honestly, it's my first garden and I just planted a bunch of plants…I don't even know what kind it is. The vine looks like it's pretty dead and not sure that it's even getting anymore hydration at this point. My cantaloupes just fall off the vine for me and make it easy for me to tell when to eat it 😂 Should I harvest her yet?

  1. I harvested my one and only decent honeydew last week, out of six plants and 8 other super stunted honeydews. That drought hit us kinda hard lol

I grew a type of watermelon this summer that ripens at about the same size, and the skin turns yellow. It was SO hard to wait for that. Because I had been told that when the tendril near it’s stem dries up, then they are ready. Like you, I waited for my cantaloupes to let go of the vine on their own, they were so good! Let us know how it goes.
