I have ARFID abd autism and really REALLY struggle with textures. Since this post- eggs are now OUT, as is the ground beef. Physically can no longer eat them, so says my brain. This week Iโ€™ve mainly been living off canned tomato soup and white grain wraps, but that would make for a boring set of photos.

Photo 1: half a microwaveable pizza, hash brown and soft boiled eggs with paprika, tomato sauce on EVERYTHING (this was a good day!!!)

Photo 2: plain ground beef, tomato sauce, sour cream and hash brown in a toasted wrap

Photo 3: plain rice, sitting in miso soup with a pile of shredded cheese that I cooked in the oven until melted mass. Tomato sauce (this was a bad day, barely choked this one down. The cheese was NOT a good addition)

Photo 4: plain rice, hot chips and tomato sauce in a toasted wrap

If my brain ever decides tomato sauce is no longer a edible substance, Iโ€™m cooked ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I’m sorry you struggle so much with textures. For me, egg whites have the worst texture ever. Anything like it makes me wanna puke ๐Ÿคข. I try so hard to incorporate eggs into my meals (cheap + healthy) but whenever I remember I’m eating eggs I just get queasy lol.

You wrap those tortillas so tightly and evenly itโ€™s super satisfying

Sorry it’s getting difficult. High protein breads & Greek yogurts with fat and protein is how I get nutrition with my aversion to meat/poultry/fish – also I supplement with homemade powders added to like tomato sauces etc, so like dried red lentils get blitzed in a coffee grinder & feels like I’m adding a healthy seasoning to everything.

With afrid I say any meal is a good meal

not to distract from your coping, but what kind of hash browns are those? they look like McD’s, which are, objectively, the best on earth.

How do you feel about pasta? Barilla has an excellent protein pasta, that texture wise, is very comparable to regular pasta. I think it uses a pea protein isolate vs whole legumes so the texture is very smooth like a white wheat pasta.

As for eggs, idk if youโ€™ve ever tried gyeran-jim, but the texture isnโ€™t like regular eggs. Itโ€™s a steamed egg dish thatโ€™s super fluffy and soft. Itโ€™s very mild tasting and doesnโ€™t have a super eggy taste. Normally you add broth and other seasonings to help improve the taste and texture.

Anyway, Iโ€™m glad youโ€™re able to eat something. We celebrate our wins when we can.

Hey โ€” you have ARFID and autism. Youโ€™re doing the best you can. I donโ€™t think your food is pathetic. I think itโ€™s doing the job of nourishing you until or unless you add other foods to your diet.

As a fellow person with ARFID, I give you a massive high five not only for knowing yourself and what you can and cannot eat, but for EATING! I know sometimes it’s hard to eat at all, I’m proud of you for doing this well ๐Ÿ‘

Those hash browns and wraps look pretty tasty!

My daughter and I both struggle with ARFID with our autism as well. Keep on keeping on. Iโ€™m on rice bowls and mashed potatoes and sheโ€™s living on strawberry milk and barbecue Pringles currently.

As long as you are eating something, good job.

Can you manage a multivitamin? I’m really proud of you btw

  14. Great on you for identifying your safe foods and also for at least trying to eat even on days where it’s physically difficult to do so.

You mentioned plain rice. What are your thoughts on rice-based dishes? Or cooked in some sort of broth instead of water?
