A new Italian restaurant concept is on its way to the East Boston waterfront.
The restaurant will be managed by Chef Douglass Williams, a renowned chef associated with MIDA, a group of Italian restaurants with locations in East Boston, the South End, Fenway, and Newtonville. Williams is known for his interpretations of contemporary Italian cuisine, featuring pizzas, pastas, arancini, and gelato.
Williams is also the co-founder, alongside business partners Brian Lesser and Seth Garber, of APIZZA in Boston’s Hub Hall. This venue specializes in New Haven- and Roman-style pizzas.
As a highly acclaimed chef, Williams has received numerous culinary recognitions, including Food & Wine’s Best New Chef award in 2020 and multiple James Beard Award semifinalist nominations, including in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2025.
Although details about La Tavernetta by MIDA are limited as of Friday, Sept. 26, What Now Boston reported that the space will have a main dining room and a bar area with seating for 102 guests, for a total indoor space of 4,034 square feet. The restaurant will also feature an additional 2,010-square-foot seasonal patio that can accommodate up to 116 guests.
La Tavernetta by MIDA will be located at 35-45 Lewis St. in East Boston.
