My second spirit (first one RIP) I got this in May of 2025 and have done several cleanings ( deep ones every propane tank change for cadence). I cook, clean (almost always lol) and I use the Scrub Daddy BBQ to steam clean it instead of using chemicals or anything harsh on the grates.

Is this normal for it to start accumulating rust on the Weber grate? Also what’s the “cracking” black – is that paint or the kerosate stuff I hear about?

I keep it covered and under a my patio ceiling –
But I am in swampy Florida so humidity is real

  1. Don’t clean it so much, it’ll be fine. I clean mine seasonally – I use it all year but it gets a good cleaning in Spring. Crank it on high for a few minutes when your done to burn off excess grease, shut it down, scrape the grate and leave it until the next time.

Wiping a tiny bit of high smoke oil like sunflower or grapeseed after you clean should help as well. Treat it like a cast iron pan

What’s the black peeling stuff on the box itself?
