We were thrilled when we heard that longtime Tampa star Mise en Place is moving to a shiny new location in Ybor City – an appropriately historic setting for the local favorite. Of course, the upcoming move has also prompted us to make our final visits to their current Hyde Park home, allowing us to soak in the memories and the French-inspired cuisine in equal parts.

The good news is that we still have plenty of time. Mise en Place will remain open at 442 W. Grand Central Blvd. through the end of October, with Finale on Grand Central taking place October 27, 28, 30, and the Grand Finale Halloween night serving as the farewell at the beloved property. In fact, Mise is actually asking for our help between now and then – they need someone to come enjoy all the wine!

Rather than move their entire (and highly-rated) wine cellar across town, the restaurant has slashed prices on their best bottles to a ridiculous discount. Some of the best wines you’ll find anywhere in the region can be enjoyed over dinner at retail prices. It’s the perfect excuse for one or two more nights at Mise en Place before it moves in November. Plus, you get a taste of the high life for a massively reduced price. See more details on the “Garage Sale” here.

It’s a fun time for Mise en Place lovers, as we get the opportunity to soak in the nostalgia of a Tampa legend while also looking forward to the celebration of its growth. With so many local restaurants announcing their closures, it’s a relief to see one of our favorites not just surviving, but thriving.

Of course, it’s with good reason that Mise en Place is thriving. The French and internationally-inspired fine dining restaurant has been a star for decades, constantly evolving to give patrons more and more reasons to return. The owners and their team have built a community around food, drink and gathering.

Since its inception in 1986, Mise has been a culinary beacon in Tampa Bay, earning national acclaim and a cherished place in the local scene. With a proprietor-style approach and chef-driven excellence, Mise is more than just a restaurant—it’s for those seeking an extraordinary dining experience. The allure lies in the ever-evolving menu, an exceptional wine list, and a staff dedicated to infusing every moment with inspiration. Mise isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a celebration of culinary artistry, where freshness in food and ambiance is the golden rule.

“With the classically trained Chef Marty Blitz, guests can enjoy innovative modern cuisine rooted in classic French cooking,” says owner Maryann Ferenc. “It’s the growth and adventure and experimentation that keeps folks coming back.”

You’ll never have the same dining experience twice at this local treasure. Nearly 30% of the menu is seasonally fluid and changes every quarter, with specials on the menu changing every few weeks.

Ybor City is exciting next chapter for Mise en Place

The exterior of a building

At the new Ybor City location (1229 E. Eighth Ave.) inside the Casa Gomez building—owned by developer Darryl Shaw—Mise en Place will occupy a slightly smaller footprint. However, the approach and menu will remain consistent. Diners can expect the same creative fusion of international flavors, such as mole-crusted scallops served over masa and squash purée, or squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta and spicy ’nduja. Desserts remain a highlight, especially the warm pistachio polenta cake with olive oil gelato and basil blackberry jam.

And of course, no discussion of Mise en Place is complete without mention of their still bar programs. The aforementioned wine cellar is a star, and their culinary-inspired cocktail list is full of dazzling delights. The housemade syrups, tinctures and garnishes complement expertly-crafted cocktails to pair with the amazing French cuisine.

Mise en Place opens Tuesday-Thursday at 4:30 pm, with seating until 9 pm; and Friday and Saturday at 4:30, with seating until 10 pm. The restaurant will remain open at its current location (442 W. Grand Central Blvd.) through October 31. Mise en Place will re-open in Ybor City at 1229 E. Eighth Ave. in mid-November. Stay tuned for details on that grand opening.
