    Don’t listen to the haters.

Not everything has to be PURE NIPPON HISTORIC ACCURACY

American/Canadian-Japanese sushi is a completely valid regional subcuisine and has a rich history.

And before all the weebs get all up in their feelings, I was literally raised on this shit

Both your last pic and this one look tasty, so don’t let food purists ruin your fun! Keep on exploring and finding more cool things to eat over there 😎

Food purists can say whatever but at the end of the day, chain sushi restaurants in Japan has stuff like hamburger and tempura nigiri lol. “B-but you can’t mix shoyu and wasabi!” actually that’s only a fine dining/omakase thing, casual dining sushi chefs don’t give a shit if you mix them lol. It’s like how greasy American pizza and brick oven Italian pizza are both good but comparing them is just stupid. I’m honestly not a fan of stuff like cream cheese on sushi, but some of the American rolls are good, it just depends. BUT tbh you are in r/ JapaneseFood so authenticity is often expected.

I thought maybe you were reacting to one or two stupid comments, so I looked up your last post here and yikes! ALL negative. The one positive comment was downvoted until it was hidden.

Diaspora sushi is sushi. In fact, diaspora cuisine in general is a strength. It should be celebrated, not gatekept. That sushi was in Turkiye I’m guessing? (Judging by the bottle of Beyoglu Zençafil.) 50 years ago, who would have believed that raw fish on vinegared rice would conquer the world?

It’s American-style sushi and I hope it was tasty 🙂

I eat American sushi all the time, it’s good

I dunno Japanese people love burgers, It’s kind of a thing, they’re often very different from American burgers but they’re still good. They also love pizza! The pizza is great, especially like an Italian restaurant.

You might want to check out the sushi subreddit! Obviously there’s still some haters there, but overall it’s a pretty positive vibe and I bet they’d like this

If you want to try traditional Japanese style, but have access to English language menus, I can recommend Sushi zanmai, the fish is really good and it’s not that expensive.

Your life would be so much easier if you stop listening to the haters and miserable people on reddit. Their opinions are no more valid than yours are. If you enjoy your food, that’s what matters.
