Did you have something sitting on it? Personally, probably bad advice but id eat it if it doesn’t smell weird.

Use the sniff test. Some oxidation is okay, especially when it’s just on the surface.

    If it smells funky, toss.

  3. oosickness

How does it smell? Looks like oxidation to me.

  4. Could be freezer burn/it got oxygenised but I think that would happen on the edges of the cut not the middle. I…dunno if I’d risk eating these cause I can’t be 100% sure

Is it put together meat, it has a weird texture.

  6. DargonFeet

Just lack of exposure to oxygen causing the myoglobin from maintaining it’s red color. As long as it smells good, it’s fine.

Smell it for real. I had a ribeye that looked great but smelled nasty. This is probably the other way

  8. Milk_Mindless

    Meat can discoloured sometimes.

Still edible can still be tasty

  9. BigBadMisterWolf

Nah it’s fine but the comment saying to smell it first ain’t wrong

  10. Aggravating_Soil5317

It had oxygen get to it right there. Probably a pin hole in the cling wrap

Fine – looks like it just got slightly oxidized. Unless it smells bad. Then don’t eat it

  12. Oxidation in and of itself isn’t bad, if it smells OK it’s good to go

  13. Desperate_Age_6881

Thats where the label was most likely

  14. Dangerous_Leg4584

Honestly, nothing wrong with it. The red is dye they add to make it look better. Smell test.

To be honest these look like meat glue steaks… doesn’t even look real

I thought meat wasn’t even really as red as they make it out to Dan don’t they put chemicals in it to make it more red?

  17. Use your nose. Olfactory senses are among the oldest.

Don’t eat it if it has an off or sour smell .

That grey patch could simply be oxidization.

  18. SnowRidin

    smell it
if it even has a hint of “OOFFFF” toss it

  19. It’s fine. I cut meat and when we rework whoke roasts into steaks, the side that had the tag sitting on it usually develops those “bruises” (I forget the technical term). Can also be caused by packs sitting on each other which probably happened here. As others said always smell but that steak is 100% fine. When ours get too discolored like that but are still in date we cover it in seasoning and sell as that.

Smell it, and cook it a little extra JUST to make sure.

  21. Aggressive-Middle855

It’s fine if you’re looking for something to sole your shoes with

When you cook it you’ll know it’s bad! I remember the first time I smelled someone coming old/bad meat… smelled like death! My old roommate was cooking beef from the freezer he had. I literally had to come find out what smelled so bad

  23. OutLawJeep

Eat. Sometimes another package sitting on top of it in the meat case, or the label can cause oxidation.

  24. Dry_Possible8400

Your nose knows if smells like beef eat it if it smells like anything else toss it

  25. papalegba666

Just sniff it. I promise your nose/stomach will tell you

  26. Feel sljmey? Smell like sulfur?

That’s oxidation causing that color and isn’t a true indicator of freshness alone.
