Fernando Bustos Latorre, general manager of Santa Sofía Chile, shares his perspective on how to take advantage of these celebrations. In addition, with more than eight years in the production of wine competitions and events and having shared experiences with great sommeliers and Masters of Wine, he knows firsthand the diversity and richness of Chilean wines.
“In general, a mild Merlot goes well with empanadas or a light roast, while a Cabernet Sauvignon, even in its young version, adds structure and character to more intense red meats. Carmenère, on the other hand, with its spicy notes and silky tannins, is a great ally for creole stews, corn pie or meat with pebre. For cooler moments or to toast, a Rosé or a sparkling wine are ideal options to accompany and enjoy during these celebrations”, commented Fernando.
Regarding the classics of the 18th, he shared a personal tip: “I like the Terremoto with Espumante, it gives a fresh touch, but everyone can follow their own traditional recipe”.
Regarding Santa Sofía Chile’s offer, he added: “For now we have Merlot, Rosé and sparkling wine, and we are preparing our first Carmenère for this Fiestas Patrias. In the future I would also like to experiment with a Syrah”.
He also highlighted how young people are increasingly approaching wine: “I see many people interested in getting to know Chilean wines, tasting different styles and learning how to pair them. This keeps our wine culture alive and allows traditions to continue evolving without losing authenticity”.
In closing, Fernando stressed that the important thing is to enjoy the celebration: taste different wines, share with family and friends and have a good time. His final recommendation is to drink in moderation and take advantage of the occasion to discover the diversity of Chilean wine.
