This morning, Halliday Wine Companion announced its highly anticipated Top 100 Wines for 2025, a celebration of standout wines from the last 12 months.
Since it was first published in the 1970s, James Halliday’s annual Top 100 has been one of the most anticipated lists on the vinous calendar. Today, the list is selected by the Halliday Tasting Team – Dave Brookes, Jane Faulkner, Jeni Port, Katrina Butler, Marcus Ellis, Mike Bennie, Philip Rich, Shanteh Wale and Toni Paterson MW – and represents the best Australian wines of the year across a variety of styles and price points. Halliday’s Top 100 Wines 2025 also has a strong focus on value and availability of the wines selected, and most importantly, showcases wines for any budget.
The Top 100 Wines span a variety of categories: Australian Sparkling, White Wines Under $40, White Wines Over $40, Red Wines Under $50, and Red Wines Over $50. The 2025 list also sees the return of the coveted Taster’s Pick.
Introduced in 2024, the Taster’s Pick category represents each Tasting Team member’s personal highlight from the past year. Only one nomination per taster is allowed, making inclusion on this list a particularly strong indicator of excellence. The 10 wines on the list range from $30 to $300 a bottle and have been scored between 95 and 99 points.
“This year’s Top 100 Wines reflect the incredible breadth and vitality of Australian winemaking and viticulture. From long-established producers to new pioneers, each wine is a benchmark for its variety. It’s a joy to celebrate these wines from our diverse and multifaceted tapestry of Australian wine regions, each of which makes our industry stronger and wine drinkers more keenly invested in drinking Australian wine.” – Halliday Wine Companion Head of Tasting Katrina Butler.
On Wednesday October 22, Halliday Wine Companion will also announce the Halliday Top 100 Wineries for 2025. Stay tuned to see who makes the list.
To celebrate the release of both the Top 100 Wines and Top 100 Wineries 2025, Halliday will host dedicated tasting events in Melbourne and Brisbane in November. The Melbourne will be at Panama Dining Room on Wednesday 12 November, and the Brisbane event will be at Cloudland on Thursday 20 November. The tasting events will feature producers featured in the Top 100 Wines and Top 100 Wineries lists, who will showcase their award-winning wines.
