Your knife wasn’t sharp and was dull af. Keeping your knives sharp is one of the most important parts of being a good cook.

A good knife that is well taken care of will slice even paper. Yours just sucks.

  2. Looks like the sushi I make. Shittiness confirmed.

I’m sure it still tastes good. It’s all gonna get mixed in the mouth anyway

Pro tip: Homemade sushi does´t have to be a roll at all, simply fold and break a piece of Nori into 4 parts and use each piece like a Taco-tortilla, or make tiny cones and fill them

Unless you were trying to impress someone, the important thing is “did it taste good?”

If you are trying to impress someone, work on your rice. That stuff looks like Uncle Ben’s microwave rice. Second, use a sharp knife. That stuff looks like it was torn apart.

Why does your rice look like this?

Looks like you might have used long grain rice? It’s difficult to handle because it doesn’t have the starchy stickiness of sushi rice. This is the first type of rice I tried with – it was 2001 and my small country town didn’t have anything else! When I traveled to the city, I bought a “sushi kit” with a mat and nori sheets but didn’t see any rice options. I used plain tinned tuna or salmon, and mayo. It sucked but I was proud. My classmates were confused and horrified by the tuna smell. My point is that we have come a long way since then and you should have a go with sushi rice to see how much easier it rolls 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
