I’ve done it. When you puree it, it’s hard to taste the smoke. It does taste better, but if you didn’t know it was smoked, you wouldn’t know why. I then smoked the pie afterwards too!

I would slow cook it, puree, and make smoked pumpkin butter.

Maybe smaller chunks to impart more smoke. But this seems super interesting either way.

If you want some smoke flavor in your pie use lard instead of butter in the crust and smoke that. You could also smoke butter but IMHO lard is better.

most veggies/fruit intake alot of smoke so i dont see why this wouldnt work well.

That looks like a carving pumpkin; like a Howden or Connecticut Field pumpkin.

I learned the hard way that these make terrible eating

My father in law did this a lot last year since he grew so many pumpkins. He used it to make a pumpkin curry

Cool idea, but maybe cut those each in half for a faster and more consistent cook? I usually also put a teeny brush of oil on vegetable matter that big, but it’s just a personal preference. In your case you might want to brush them with something like maple syrup or rub them with cinnamon and/or sugar. I only cook savory so others might have superior suggestions. Hope it turns out well!

We do this all the time to make pumpkin soup

I like to use the puree in smoked Mac and cheese or mix some in with my chili for a little more flavor. I do this a lot, then freeze the pumpkin for recipes.
